Dr. Harvey Schwartz, former Chair of the Certification Committee, is available to visit your Institute by Skype or in person to conduct a workshop on certification.

Through the use of case material Dr. Schwartz familiarizes participants with the writing requirements, the core competencies used to evaluate applications for certification and the steps involved in the certification process.

Those who have attended these sessions have found it helped to de-mystify the certification process in a user friendly format.

If you are interested, please contact Dr. Schwartz at harveyschwartz@comcast.net

There will be an Open Meeting for Psychoanalytic Candidates to talk with the ABPsa Board about how well the 11 Core Competencies for Board Certification in Psychoanalysis aligns with their training at the Palmer House on June 21st from 11:15 AM to 12:45 PM.

As a candidate in the midst of undergoing the rigorous training to become a psychoanalyst, you’ve said, “standards matter.” As the national certification organization in psychoanalysis, we are committed to conducting ongoing research and development of competency standards. Feedback from all groups involved in certification matters to us. This inquiry is central to who we are and what we do, and ties directly to those standards.

We would like your input regarding current psychoanalytic curricula and practice standards as they relate to our competency guidelines, so that we can further refine our process, ensuring the excellence of our examination standards and procedures. We have attached the current competency criteria that we use to this email for your easy review.

We are interested in your overall thoughts, as well as specific questions or ideas about each or any of the specific competencies or sub-competencies:

    • Do they reflect what you are learning about psychoanalytic treatment?
    • Are they covered in your curriculum or supervision?
    • Are there criteria you feel should be added or omitted?
    • How does the process seem to assess what you are learning?

If you would like to participate, please let us know you are coming!  If you decide the day of, that is OK too, we'd love to hear your feedback.
