About Me
Lynn Friedman, Ph.D., FABP, is a clinical psychologist, a board certified, psychoanalyst and a Training and Supervising Analyst and a Johns Hopkins faculty member. Also, she is a certified master career counselor in full-time private practice; one block from Washington, DC, (Friendship Heights metro, red line). Beyond analyzing and supervising psychoanalysts-in-training, her practice is weighted heavily toward attorneys, academicians, physicians, mental health professionals, entrepreneurs and students (ranging from doctoral students to middle school students).

She works with people from a wide array of professional backgrounds and interests, including some who are pursuing paths off-the-beaten-track. Her sub-specialties include: relationships, anxiety, depression and work-life concerns.

Beyond this, reflecting the vibrant fabric of Washington DC’s cosmopolitan and international community, she sees people from all over the U.S. and from all over the world, representing all races and creeds. She values this diversity and recognizes the important role that culture may play.

She has a special interest in helping analysts to overcome intrapsychic, institutional and organizational/cultural barriers to helping patients enter psychoanalysis. Similarly, she actively advocates for psychoanalysis, and the utility of psychoanalytic ideas, in the popular media. This work has included, a nationally-syndicated, Washington Business Journal column, "Corporations on the Couch", over 40 columns in the career section of the Washington Post and an interview about her teaching psychoanalysis at Johns Hopkins University https://education.jhu.edu/2018/01/mental-health-counseling-freud-lives/. In the career arena, she pioneered a psychoanalytically-informed approach to career counseling: (http://www.ncda.org/aws/NCDA/pt/sd/news_article/98443/_PARENT/layout_details_cc/false). Beyond this, she serves on the faculty at Johns Hopkins University.
