Robert Langan earned his A.B. at Harvard, then his Ph.D. in clinical psychology at New York University in 1984. Having begun a private practice, he went on to complete in 1989 his requirements for the Certificate In Psychoanalysis at the William Alanson White Institute in New York City. His continuing involvement with the White led to appointments as Supervisor of Psychotherapy, Teaching Faculty, Director of the Center for Applied Psychoanalysis, Editorial Board and Book Review Editor of the journal Contemporary Psychoanalysis, Supervising Analyst, Fellow of the Council of Fellows, and in 2004, Training and Supervising Psychoanalyst. He has presented at various national and international conferences, published widely in professional journals, and authored the interdisciplinary book Minding What Matters: Psychotherapy and the Buddha Within.
