My interest is psychoanalysis began during freshman year of college when we read Oedipus Rex in the original translation and I learned about the importance of unconscious forces. Later in college in a literature course taught by Lionel Trilling I was exposed to the creative writers use of the unconscious to present psychological themes in intensely gripping ways. As a psychoanalyst I have continued my interest in the work of creative artists of many disciplines and have focused on issues which inhibit or obstruct their work. I have also engaged in research on the process of change through psychoanalytic treatment and utilize that in my work. Additional interests are the integration of medication and psychoanalysis, issues of loss and bereavement, and the transitions through phases of life from late adolescence to late middle age.
