Dr. Drescher is Past President of the Group for Advancement of Psychiatry, a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, and a Past President of APA’s New York County Psychiatric Society. Dr. Drescher served as a member of APA’s DSM-5 Workgroup on Sexual and Gender Identity Disorders. Since 2011, he has served as a member of the World Health Organization’s Working Group on the Classification of Sexual Disorders and Sexual Health which will address sex and gender diagnoses in WHO's forthcoming (2018) revisions of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11). He is also a member of the Honorary Scientific Committee revising the 2nd edition of the Psychodynamic Diagnostic Manual (PDM-2). Dr. Drescher is a Fellow, Training and Supervising Analyst at the William Alanson White Institute in New York, Clinical Professor of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at New York Medical College, and a Clinical Supervisor and Adjunct Professor at New York University's Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. Dr. Drescher is a Past Trustee of the Accreditation Council for Psychoanalytic Education and the American Academy of Psychoanalysis and Dynamic Psychiatry. He is a member of numerous distinguished psychiatric, medical and scientific organizations, including The American College of Psychiatrists, the New York Academy of Medicine, the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality and the International Academy of Sex Research.
